Edsel Ford’s Tennis Champ Lands a Fall Fan Choice Award

Devin Flum voted Favorite Junior

  • Enjoys helping people

Edsel Ford High School – 16-year-old Devin Flum was chosen as the 2019 “Favorite Junior” in Local 4’s 4Frenzy Fall Fan Choice Awards. He’s had years of experience with playing tennis, however his first time facing an opponent was recent. “I started playing tennis as a competitive sport this school year,” he says.

Even though he won our 4Frenzy Award for tennis, he’s more active when it comes to playing basketball and baseball. Devin says that he is a varsity player for both the baseball and basketball team at Edsel High School. In fact, baseball is the reason why he chooses to play tennis; it helps him improve his skill with a bat.

“It [tennis] helps me stay active, stay in shape and helps with my hand eye coordination for baseball,” he says.

As far as challenges that he’s faced while playing competitively, Flum says there aren’t very many he’s encountered. “I didn’t have any challenges, I just enjoyed playing and being competitive,” he says.

Despite that, Flum has set up a few goals and challenges for himself to improve his ability on the tennis court. “My goal for next season is to become better and stronger,” he says.

With next year being Flum’s senior year of high school, he says he does plan to attend college and eventually wants to become a professional athlete, however, not for tennis. “I would love to go professional for the game of baseball, but first make it at the college level.”

Congratulations to Devin Flum on his Fall Fan Choice Award for the Favorite Junior Tennis Player.
