ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Police in Ann Arbor were able to arrest a man after using a drone’s thermal camera to locate him on New Year’s Eve.

According to authorities, officers were called to a home on Pauline Boulevard, near 7th Street, at about 11 a.m. for a domestic violence incident that involved a gun. Police said a 40-year-old man from Romulus had assaulted a 26-year-old woman inside the home, but no shots were fired.

The suspect reportedly ran off when police arrived. The victim declined medical attention for her injuries, but she is expected to be OK.

Using drone teams from Northville Township and University of Michigan police departments, the man was located in the backyard of a home on Ardmoor Avenue, roughly a quarter of a mile away.

He was taken into custody just before 12:30 p.m.

Police will submit their case to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for potential charges.
