‘I wonder if that was her taking her last breath’: Neighbor shares conversation with man accused of spiking wife’s cereal with heroin

Jason Harris asked Sheila Koop to check on wife

FLINT, Mich. – The neighbor who found a Michigan woman dead after her husband allegedly spiked her cereal with heroin shared new details in court Tuesday.

Sheila Koop said Jason Harris texted her in September 2014 asking her to check on his wife, Christy Ann Thompson Harris, because he was worried she overslept.

When Koop entered the couple’s Davison home, she found Christy Harris foaming at the mouth and without a pulse.

Koop called 911.

Shortly after, Jason Harris returned home. Koop said he wasn’t crying and he seemed angry. She said he told her he had given his wife cereal the night before and she couldn’t hold it.

Koop said Jason Harris told her, “I heard her coughing as I was walking out the door. I wonder if that was her taking her last breath."

Koop also told the court about an incident months before Christy Harris’ death where she ran out of the home sobbing and shaking, saying her husband was cheating on her.

Christy Harris’ death was originally ruled an accidental overdose. Five years passed before prosecutors announced charges against her husband.

“We believe he put heroin in her cereal and milk the night she died,” Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said.
