Driver struck outside of vehicle on I-96 while trying to save loose dog

A crash closed the westbound lanes of I-96 on April 19, 2020. (WDIV)

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Michigan State Police said at about 3:40 p.m. Sunday a dog was running loose on I-96 near Livernois Avenue when a driver pulled over to try to rescue it.

The driver and dog both were struck by different vehicles. The driver was rushed to a hospital with unknown condition.

Details on the dog’s status were not revealed.

The investigation is ongoing.
