Man shot in struggle over weapon after breaking up fight on Detroit’s west side

The 58-year-old victim is in serious condition

DETROIT – Police are investigating an altercation that ended with a man getting shot early Sunday morning on Detroit’s west side.

According to authorities, the shooting happened at about 12:30 a.m. in the 19100 block of Evergreen Road, near Seven Mile Road. The suspect and 47-year-old woman were in an altercation when a 58-year-old man intervened, and the suspect left the location.

Police said the suspect returned with a weapon and pointed it at the victim and during a struggle for the weapon, the suspect shot the victim and then fled in a blue Chevrolet Malibu.

The vehicle has a side trim hanging from the vehicle and an 82nd Airborne bumper sticker on the rear.

The victim was struck and taken to the hospital. Officials say he is in temporary serious condition.

Police believe the suspect is 63-year-old Ronald Uriel.
