Families demand answers in Detroit hit-and-run that killed 2 women

Vehicle recovered, but police still seek driver

DETROIT – The search continues for the driver of an SUV that killed two women in a hit-and-run on Detroit’s west side.

Jennifer Kennet and Robert Jones Jr. are having the worst time handling the unfortunate and untimely death of their sister, Brittany Jones.

“My sister, Erica, they were real people, and they have seven children now, total between them, that don’t have a mom,” said Jennifer Kennet.

“I’m just shocked man, just shocked. I don’t understand,” Jones said.

Both, Brittany and her sister-in-law, Erica, were killed in a hit-and-run early Saturday morning as they were crossing Schaefer Highway, following a night at the Kings and Queens nightclub.

“How did you strike and kill two people and then continue to drive on?” asked Jennifer.

Sadly, Brittany was a mother of three. Jennifer said the hardest part was explaining to Brittany’s 8-year-old daughter what happened to her mother.

“She has a girl and two boys and the boys are a little bit younger. But, her daughter is wondering how she’s going to grow up without a mom,” Jennifer added.

Police have recovered the SUV that hit Brittany and Erica, but there’s still no sign on who was behind the wheel.

“I just don’t understand how somebody can hit two people and keep going like it wasn’t nothing. Like, you didn’t feel that first person you hit?” Jones asked. ”I just hope they catch them.”

A $5,000 reward is being offer to whoever has information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Detroit Police Department at 313-596-5200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help Brittany Jones’ family. You can donate here.
