Man, 61, drives into oncoming traffic in Oakland County, dies in crash

Unclear if alcohol, drugs are factors in crash

OAKLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 61-year-old man died Thursday after he drove into oncoming traffic in Oakland Township, crashing into another vehicle head-on.

Police say that at about 6:16 p.m. on Jan. 26, the 61-year-old man was driving a 2000 Subaru Outback northbound on Adams Road near South Addison Circle, which is north of Dutton Road. The man reportedly crossed over the center lane and into oncoming traffic heading southbound on Adams Road.

The Subaru crashed head-on into a Chevrolet Equinox that was driven by a 30-year-old Oakland Township man, officials said.

The 61-year-old man, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 30-year-old man, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to the hospital and listed in critical but stable condition.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said the 61-year-old man isn’t being publicly identified yet “pending notification of next of kin.”

It is currently unclear what caused the man to drive into oncoming traffic. Police said they do not know if alcohol and/or drugs were factors in the crash. An autopsy has been scheduled, though a specific date was not announced.

No other details have been provided at this time. Oakland County authorities continue to investigate.
