What we now know as Troy was first settled in the early 1800s by pioneers and immigrants.
It has ties to the Wyandot, Anishinaabe, Potawatomi and Mississauga First Nation.

Settlers cleared the area for farmland and quickly gained a reputation for excellent produce and dairy products. It was established as Troy Township in 1827.
Despite the successful farms, Troy didn’t see much growth for a while as railroads bypassed Troy for Pontiac and Royal Oak.
After World War II and the introduction of freeways, the city saw significant growth that has continued to this day. Troy’s population has more than quadrupled in size since it was incorporated as a city in 1955.
