Police arrest suspect in Kent County bank robbery
KENT COUNTY, MI – Police arrested a 27-year-old Cadillac-area man in a robbery at the Fifth Third Bank on 10 Mile Road near Belmont Avenue, Kent County sheriff’s deputies said. Sheriff’s detectives and state police used a search warrant on Sunday, Aug. 28, at the man’s Wexford County home, resulting in the arrest. Major progress made cleaning up toxic green ooze site in Madison Heights
MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. – Enough progress has been made in cleaning up the toxic green ooze site in Madison Heights that the federal government has handed control back over to Michigan officials. The work has never stopped at the green ooze site -- even during the pandemic. Madison Heights officials said EGLE and EPA conducted an extensive investigation, installed a treatment system and collected more than 350,000 gallons of contaminated groundwater to be treated. Gary Sayers, the owner of the building at the center of the Madison Heights toxic ooze case, hasn’t been seen much since November. A virtual town hall meeting with Madison Heights officials, the EPA and EGLE will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. More information can be found here.
Police: Man recorded women in Eastpointe bathroom weeks after same offense made in Roseville
EASTPOINTE, Mich. – Michael Robert Capizzo was taken into police custody Monday on suspicion of using his phone to record video of women in an Eastpointe Big Lots restroom. According to authorities, Capizzo, a 22-year-old registered sex offender, went into the women’s bathroom at the Big Lots located on 10 Mile Road, just west of Gratiot Avenue Monday, where he placed his cellphone under a bathroom stall wall to record an occupant inside. Police said he fled the scene, but officers were able to identify and arrest Capizzo without incident. Capizzo has been charged with using computers to commit a crime and capturing/distributing images of unclothed person. Police said Capizzo was arrested in Roseville for the same offense in November.
Couple accused of Metro Detroit crime spree, bringing their children with them
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – A couple was arrested by Farmington Hills police Wednesday, accused of breaking into about 30 businesses across Metro Detroit. The man and woman have children together and police said they brought the children with them in their car while they committed crimes. The officer knew there were people breaking into multiple businesses, night after night, and he stopped the car. Police said a hammer was found inside the car and the couple admitted they had been spending nights driving with their children, breaking into businesses and grabbing about $100 each time. Vigil held to honor and remember Oak Park students killed in collision
OAK PARK, Mich. – Friends and family members gathered Sunday to remember the two Oak Park High School students killed in a Friday night crash. Police said six Oak Park High School students were in the vehicle the driver was speeding and jumped the curb. The vigil was held Sunday at the David H Shepherd Park, located on Church Street in Oak Park. An Oak Park High School basketball player is still in critical condition. Oak Park High School officials posted on Facebook that said counselors, social workers and psychologists will be on staff for students, staff and family members to provide emotional support and grief counseling.
Fiery crash in Southfield kills 2 Oak Park High School students, injures 4 others
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A tragedy struck Oak Park High School Friday night after a fiery crash took the lives of two students. There were six Oak Park High School students inside the vehicle at the time at the time. The other three teenagers are expected to be OK.Oak Park High School officials posted on Facebook that they would not be releasing names and that parents asked to keep details confidential. 10-year-old killed in Warren crash after crane falls off truck
WARREN, Mich. A 10-year-old girl was killed at the scene of a crash on 10 Mile and Ryan roads in Warren Saturday morning, according to police. Police say a dump truck driver ran a red light and hit a car. The impact forced a crane on the truck to fall off and onto the car. The truck driver is a 60-year-old Chesterfield Township man who is in stable condition. My deepest sympathy goes out to the mother of the 10-year-old child as well as others in the family, said Warren Mayor Jim Fouts on Facebook.

Missing: 74-year-old Roseville man who suffers from dementia
ROSEVILLE, Mich. – Police are seeking help to locate a missing Roseville man who suffers from dementia. Robert Bruce Holman, 74, was last seen around 7 a.m. on Sunday at a Walgreens store on the corner of 10 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue, police said. Holman is described as 5 feet, 4 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds and was last seen wearing a blue and black jacket and olive green pants. The man also walks with a cane. Armed robber targets Oakland Party Store in Southfield; nobody injured
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – An armed robber targeted the Oakland Party Store in Southfield on Jan. 23 around 7:30 p.m., according to authorities. The suspect entered the store at 10 Mile and Evergreen roads and threatened to shoot if the employee didn’t hand over money, police said. The employee dove behind the counter for protection, and the suspect then fled the store, officials said. He fired two shots as he ran, one at the employee and another at the front door, according to officials.
