Bitter cold causes more flooding concerns along St. Clair River
EAST CHINA, Mich. โ A State of Emergency was declared in Saint Clair County due to the flooding along its titular river -- and ongoing cold weather is expected to bring more ice jams, causing more flooding concerns for residents. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for southeastern Saint Clair County until 10 a.m. Tuesday. Ice jams cause significant flooding along St. Clair River
ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Mich. โ Ice jams along the St. Clair River caused significant flooding in Algonac to Port Huron Tuesday and Wednesday. Pieces of ice collect and dam off the river, causing it to back up. What was uncommon was the typical help used to prevent the St. Clair River from spilling over wasnโt available, causing damage all along the river. Two ice breaking ships -- U.S. Coast Guardโs Bristol Bay and Canadian cutter The Griffon -- have been conducting operations to ease the flooding.
Damage of floods revealed in Midland County as water recedes
SANFORD, Mich. Residents were allowed back into their neighborhoods as the floodwaters in Midland County receded. Houses, garages, vehicles and more were swept away in the devastating Tuesday floods. The Edenville Dam failed Tuesday night and sent Wixom Lake into a neighborhood just down river. Kerns said they are staying with family and are hoping to find a place to call their own for their family and pets.
Sanford residents band together to clean up destroyed main street
SANFORD, Mich. Every business along the main street in Sanford has been damaged by the flood. A new energy can be found Friday on Saginaw Road as residents help clean and fix their community. Not only is Sanford Pizza destroyed, photos inside of Riggies late father were also washed away.
