Detroit man charged with murder in MotorCity Casino parking garage shooting
DETROIT โ A Detroit man has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a Clinton Township man who was arguing with his girlfriend in the parking garage of the MotorCity Casino, officials said. Detroit police officers said they were called at 1:48 a.m. Sunday (March 21) to the second level of the MotorCity Casino parking structure. AdAccording to investigators, McCants and his 25-year-old girlfriend had been arguing in the parking structure when White intervened. A verbal argument between McCants and White escalated, and White pulled out a gun and shot McCants, police said. He was arrested Monday (March 22), according to Detroit officials.
Detroitโs MotorCity Casino to reopen Dec. 23 following revised coronavirus restrictions
DETROIT โ The MotorCity Casino Hotel in Detroit is preparing to open its doors to the public on Dec. 23 thanks to loosened coronavirus restrictions announced this week. The MotorCity Casino Hotel will reopen at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23, officials said. All casino and hotel employees will reportedly be tested for COVID-19 before the reopening date. MGM Grand Detroit, Greektown Casino, Motor City Casino and Caesars Windsor to close for at least two weeks
MGM Grand Detroit, Motor City Casino and Greektown Casino will all close for at least two weeks due the coronavirus crisis beginning Monday. Motor City released this statement:Based on the Michigan Gaming Control Boardโs order, MotorCity Casino will be closing to the general public tomorrow, March 16, 2020 at 12 noon. MGM Grand released this statement:In compliance with the Michigan Gaming Control Board's order, MGM Grand Detroit will temporarily suspend operations by 5:00pm, March 16. Detroit casinos report significant increases in revenue
DETROIT โ The Detroit casinos reported aggregate revenue of $121.7 million during February, topping February 2019 revenue by 6.3 percent. February revenue was up 1.5 percent from January results, and revenue rose 6.7 percent during the first two months of 2020 as compared with the same months last year. Compared with February 2019 results, MGM Grand Detroitโs monthly revenue rose 6.4 percent to $52.6 million. Greektown Casino reported $28.6 million in monthly revenue for an 8.3 percent increase compared with February 2019 numbers. The three Detroit casinos reported submitting $14.5 million in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the city of Detroit during February.

DETROIT โ Adjusted gross revenue for Detroitโs three casinos topped $1.4 billion last year. MGM Grand Detroit reported $623.5 million in yearly revenue last year, while MotorCity Casino reported $493.6 million. Both amounts were the highest yearly adjusted gross revenue totals for the casinos since they opened in 1999. Greektown Casino reported $337.2 million in adjusted gross revenue in 2019. The three casinos paid the state nearly $118 million in gaming taxes last year.
