Former Red Wing Todd Bertuzzi charged with driving drunk in Auburn Hills, police say

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. โ Former Detroit Red Wing Todd Bertuzzi has been charged for driving drunk in Auburn Hills last month, according to police. Bertuzzi failed roadside sobriety evaluations and was arrested for operating while intoxicated, Auburn Hills police said. He was taken to the Auburn Hills Police Department and refused a breath test, officials said. Bertuzzi was taken to the Oakland County Jail and released after 12 hours, pending toxicology results, police said.

SafeTags measure proximity between users to provide school medical officials with contact tracing data when an individual tests positive for COVID-19. All 15 ACC schools used the devices inside team facilities during the regular season to mitigate the spread of the virus. An ACC release stated that the technology identified several high-risk close contacts of a positive case within the league. Bars, restaurants and music venues will also be able to close two hours later, at 2 a.m., instead of at midnight.

The Sharksโ first two home games will be Feb. 1 and 3 against the Vegas Golden Knights at Gila River Arena, home of the Arizona Coyotes. The Sharks held training camp in Arizona due to a ban on contact sports in Californiaโs Santa Clara County. ___The Arizona womenโs basketball team has postponed Sundayโs game against Colorado due to COVID-10 protocols within the program. The Bucknell menโs and womenโs basketball games against Lehigh scheduled for next Saturday and Sunday are also postponed and will be rescheduled.
Sharks look to make most of extended road trip

The Sharks are set to open the season on an eight-game road trip before their first two scheduled home games Feb. 1 and 3 against Vegas. San Jose has six of eight games on the road after the opening two home games, hosting Anaheim on Feb. 13 and 15. The Sharks then come back home Feb. 26 and are scheduled to play 24 of their last 38 games in San Jose.
NHL schedule: 868 games in 116 days, back-to-backs and more
The league released a first-of-its kind schedule Wednesday featuring four realigned divisions based on geography and limited to division play only. Each team will play 56 regular-season games, which will be squeezed into whatโs tentatively scheduled as a 116-day stretch ending on May 8. It includes an NHL first: An all-Canadian North Division made up the nationโs seven teams will play each other nine or 10 times. The NHL took into account the possibility of the ban being extended by having the Sharks open with eight straight road games. Arizonaโs schedule features the Coyotes playing a league-high 10 consecutive home games, though the Coyotes will also play eight straight on the road at one point.

The deal has already received support from the NHL Playersโ Association, and features a 56-game regular season beginning Jan. 13. In an email to the AP, NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly deferred questions to the Sharks regarding their status. As for the issues affecting the Canadian teams โ Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver โ Daly said they remain unresolved.
Sharks retain Bob Boughner as coach, removing interim tag
Sharks general manager Doug Wilson formally retained Boughner as San Jose's coach Tuesday, removing the interim tag to make him the ninth full-time head coach in franchise history. Heโs very open-minded in looking to find solutions.โBoughner also hired Rocky Thompson as his associate coach and John Madden as an assistant coach. Mike Ricci, the former Sharks forward who became an assistant under Boughner, will be an NHL development coach. Thompson succeeded Boughner as the head coach at Windsor in 2015, and he won the Memorial Cup in 2017. He spent the past three seasons as head coach of the AHL's Cleveland Monsters, Columbus' top affiliate.
