USDA extends free meal for children amid coronavirus pandemic
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced Monday the extension of federal waivers allowing flexibilities in child nutrition programs to continue feeding all Michigan children during the coronavirus pandemic. This means meals will continue to be provided to children ages 18 and under at no cost to the families. The program waivers were set to expire Aug. 31. Sen. Debbie Stabenow said the U.S. Department of Agriculture did a fantastic job last spring by getting food to needy children. She said the department waived rules and spent money to make it easier for children to get meals.

ANN ARBOR The Ann Arbor YMCA has expanded its distribution sites of free produce boxes across Washtenaw County as it continues to participate in the United States Department of Agricultures Farmers to Families Food Box program. Originally planned to last for the month of June only, the Ann Arbor YMCA will be continuing distribution of the free boxes through August. It has also expanded from one site to eleven locations across the county. According to Ann Arbor YMCA President and CEO Toni Kayumi, staff distributed roughly 1,400 boxes last week to families in need. The Ann Arbor YMCA staff team distributed about 1,400 boxes of USDA fresh produce today to families in need during the coronavirus crisis.

Taco Bell recalls seasoned ground beef due to metal shavings
In a news release, the USDA reports some Taco Bell ground beef may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically metal shavings. IRVINE, Calif. - About 2 million pounds of seasoned beef used in Taco Bell burritos and tacos have been removed from restaurant locations across the country. By Monday, 100% of the product had been removed from all restaurants across 21 states, a Taco bell news release said. The beef products were produced from September 20 to October 4, the USDA said. The recall comes a few months after Taco Bell announced it was experiencing supplier shortages of tortillas and was "working diligently to replenish the supply."
