Police search for man who tried to lure 2 children toward vehicle in Ypsilanti
YPSILANTI, Mich. โ Police are searching for a man who tried to lure two children toward his vehicle in Ypsilanti, officials said. The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 1200 block of Westmoreland Street, according to police. The man was driving a newer model Honda CRV when he approached two children slowly in the SUV and tried to talk to them, authorities said. When the children ignored him, he tried to gain their trust by pretending to know one of their parents and calling them over, police said. The children continued to ignore the man and made it home, officials said.
More victims come forward in Eastern Michigan University sexual assault investigation
YPSILANTI, Mich. The Ypsilanti Police Department is investigating allegations of multiple sexual assaults from 2014 to 2018 by members of Eastern Michigan Universitys fraternity system. The investigation has resulted in two men being charged, and sources said more people are coming forward. McWilliams friend, Dustyn Durbin, who has also graduated, was charged with sexually assaulting eight different women. The alleged assaults happened while both men were EMU students, either at fraternity houses or other off-campus residences. A woman went to Ypsilanti police this year to make a complaint and now the amount of people coming forward has doubled.
Deputy charged for allegedly sexually assaulting 3 women at Eastern Michigan University
YPSILANTI, Mich. โ A Washtenaw County deputy has been charged with criminal sex conduct toward multiple women during his time as a student at Eastern Michigan University (EMU). Deangelo McWilliams, 24, is facing charges after allegedly sexually assaulting three separate women beginning when he was 20 years old. The man is accused of sexually assaulting two of the women on separate occasions at a fraternity house. Durbin was charged on Friday with nine counts of criminal sexual conduct stemming from the sexual assault of seven separate women, officials said. Officials say sexual assault complaints regarding Durbin date back to 2014, but were not investigated by EMU.
Parents support Ypsilanti Community Schools decision to remove resource officer
YPSILANTI, Mich. Parents with students at Ypsilanti Community Schools said they support the districts decision to no longer have a school resource officer on campus. Thats one of the reasons officials with Ypsilanti Community Schools is making changes. My initial feeling was sadness because our school resource officer, Deputy Guynes, has been awesome, teacher Dan Schunck said. Were on top of the social unrest theyre seeing right here in the Ypsilanti community. Parents said theyd still like to see the district partner with the Washtenaw County Sheriffs Office and the Ypsilnati Police Department in other ways.
