27 cars broken into during University of Michigan basketball game, police say

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Police are investigating after 27 car break-ins happened in the parking lot of an Ann Arbor high school during the University of Michigan basketball game on Sunday.

At about 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12, Ann Arbor officers responded to the parking lot of Pioneer High School after receiving reports of the break-ins.

When they arrived, they discovered that the windows of 27 cars had been smashed out while the University of Michigan men’s basketball game was happening.

Police say the crime was carried out by an unknown suspect or suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Ann Arbor Police Department at 734-794-6920, send an email to tips@a2gov.org or submit a silent witness tip.

The police department is also using these smash-and-grabs to remind residents and visitors to never leave purses or wallets, cell phones, cash, credit cards, debit cards, electronic devices and personal identification in plain sight.

Anyone who believes someone is trying to break into a car should report what they see to 911 or 734-994-2911.
