Inmate sentenced for bribing correction officer in Washtenaw County who snuck in tobacco, gold

MILAN, Mich. – An inmate will spend even more time behind bars after offering bribes to a corrections officer at a federal correctional facility in Milan.

In October 2024, 28-year-old Robert Bibbs pleaded guilty to offering bribes to a public official. He admitted to becoming close with a corrections officer between April 2023 and November 2023 while he was an inmate at the Michigan Federal Correctional Institution in Milan. He convinced her to purchase loose tobacco for him to sell in the prison. She reportedly purchased a gold necklace for him that she smuggled into the prison.

She pleaded guilty to providing contraband in prison.

Bibbs was sentenced Tuesday, Jan. 14, to 18 months in prison.
