10 things to do this weekend in Metro Detroit

Saline Community Fair (Saline Fairgrounds), through Monday: Celebrate the Saline community with six days of old-fashioned fun. Take a spin at the carnival, test your luck at the midway and enjoy a schedule packed full of live animals, magic shows and entertainment. Highlights include the Super Kicker Rodeo on Friday and the USA Auto Cross Championship Derby on Sunday. Admission is $7 each day. Schedule and info here.

Romeo Peach Festival (Downtown Romeo), Thursday to Monday: Bite into this juicy festival celebrating its 91st anniversary. The Romeo Peach Festival is Michigan’s second oldest festival. Enjoy everything from peach pies, cobblers, jams and dressings at the market or take a spin on carnival rides.  On Friday, the night sky ignites at the fireworks spectacular and on Monday, watch as the Romeo Peach Festival Hometown Parade rides on down Main Street. Michigan State Fair (Suburban Collection Showplace), Thursday to Monday: The Great Lakes State comes together for a Labor Day weekend tradition with plenty of food, fun and fast rides. For the fair’s 10th anniversary, there will be two new additions: the Pork Chop Revue featuring some of the smartest swine performing incredible tricks, and the Shrine Circus, a Detroit-born circus in the world’s largest air-conditioned circus tent. Enjoy fair-favorite events like baking contests, petting zoo and vendor halls. Admission to the fair is $10. Ultimate admission, which includes unlimited carnival rides and circus performances is $42. More info here.

Tigers vs. Royals (Comerica Park), Friday to Sunday: Cheer on our Tigers as they take on the Kansas City Royals with three back-to-back themed nights with special tickets and packages available: Irish Heritage night on Friday, craft beer night on Saturday and Chevy Kids Day on Sunday. Arts Beats & Eats (Downtown Royal Oak), Friday to Monday: Hundreds of thousands of people flock to Downtown Royal Oak for the annual Labor Day weekend festivities. This edition marks 25 years of bringing the community together for delicious food, great live entertainment and tons of original art. This year’s headliners include Fitz & The Tantrums, 311, Sponge and Flo Rida, but there is non-stop entertainment throughout the nine stages including a kids stage. The festival is open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day, except Monday which closes at 9 p.m. Admission is $5 before 3 p.m. and $10 after 3 p.m. More info here.

Detroit Jazz Festival (Hart Plaza & Campus Martius), Friday to Monday: The streets of Downtown Detroit become jazz’s largest stage with the return of the first in-person festival since 2019. Celebrating 42 years of music in the city, the world’s largest free jazz festival will feature legendary jazz acts, new up and comers, as well as local collegiate acts. Enjoy smooth sounds from dozens of artists throughout the weekend. The festival is free and is spread out among four stages, three in Hart Plaza and one in Campus Martius. Detroit Jazz Festival Live Stream (Campus Martius), Friday to Monday: Enjoy all the sights and sounds of the Jazz Festival while surrounded by Downtown Detroit’s stunning atmosphere. Grab a seat at the lawn while the best of the jazz festival is streamed on Campus Martius’ big screen. Starting Saturday, attendees can catch performances at the JPMorgan Chase Main Stage located in Cadillac Square.

Three Cedars Farm Opening Day, Friday to Monday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Fall is fast approaching with cider and farm season beginning. Enjoy some old-fashioned fun for the whole family with pumpkin picking, hayrides and corn mazes. Visit the general store for old time candies, market products, seasonal items and even corn stalks and straw bales. No trip is complete without donuts and cider! More info here.

Blake’s Sunflower Festival (Blake Farms), Saturday to Monday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Bring the family to Blake’s for a blooming good time. Stroll through Blake’s sunflower fields and cut your own sunflowers, fruits and vegetables to take home. Shop at the artisan market featuring over 100 of the finest artists selling one-of-a-kind pieces. There will also be free classes and demonstrations throughout the day. Wu-Tang Clan and Nas (Pine Knob), Saturday 8 p.m.: Hip hop icons and collaborators Wu-Tang Clan and Nas are co-headlining the “NY State of Mind Tour.” The Grammy Award-winners are bringing their East Coast flows to Pine Knob for a nostalgic-filled night of their greatest records like “C.R.E.A.M.” and “If I Ruled the World.” Joining them will be another hip-hop legend: Busta Rhymes.
