‘All I want is my car back’: Stolen car mystery leaves Detroit man with nearly $2K surprise

His problems began when his car was stolen in January

DETROIT – A car towing controversy has left a Detroit man stranded, and Local 4 is working to come to his rescue.

His problems began when his car was stolen in January. Weeks went by without updates from investigators.

What he didn’t know was that the car had been recovered and was just sitting at a Metro Detroit tow yard, racking up huge fees.

In an email to Help Me Hank, the man pleaded for assistance, stating that he could not get to work or help his mother with her medical appointments without his car.

“It has been really hard and stressful because I had no idea about it until 26 days later. All I want is my car back,” said the man.

Clyde, who asked not to reveal his identity, has been trying to retrieve his vehicle with no luck.

His 2014 Buick LaCrosse vanished from his mother’s Detroit driveway in January.

Just days ago, he received news that the vehicle had been found.

The car made its way to a tow yard, where it sat and accumulated fees—more than $1,600 so far and counting.

Clyde was notified on April 16, but investigators found the car in mid-March.

It has been sitting there for over a month, racking up significant storage charges.

Now, he cannot afford to retrieve his vehicle from the tow company and has no other means of transportation.

So, the car was reported stolen to Detroit police, but Michigan State Police recovered it, leading to the mishap.

After the newscasts aired, Clyde received notice that the situation had been resolved and that his fees had been wiped clean.
