What began as a business and marketing assignment at Grosse Pointe North High School quickly grew into something bigger than product design.

Our first Go 4 It event of 2026 takes us to Oakland County, where we’re hosting a book drive to help young readers.

The “Go 4 it” spirit made a big appearance on Detroit’s east side, where families going through a hard time had a heavy weight lifted from their shoulders.

Oakland County Parks hosted its first Starlight Gala, a prom-style event designed for adults with developmental disabilities, bringing together participants for an evening of celebration and inclusion.

This month's Go 4 It is all about making sure young athletes have what they need for success. Local 4’s Hoop Dreams Shoe Drive is collecting new or gently used basketball shoes and new socks for boys.

For this month's Go 4 It event, we’re collecting new and gently used sneakers and new socks that will fit boys ages 11–17. Specifically, we are collecting shoes from youth size 4 up to men’s size 14. Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL), in partnership with the Detroit Police Department and City of Detroit Parks & Recreation Division, presents Hoopin’ with Cops, a recreational basketball league for boys ages 11–17 that uses the game as a way to build trust, connection, and mentorship between youth and law enforcement. The program creates consistent opportunities for positive interaction, teamwork, and relationship-building both on and off the court.

The Center for Success, a nonprofit with locations in Detroit and Pontiac, is this month's "Go For It" Award winner. The organization is being recognized for its dedication to empowering youth literacy. The center offers students year-round programs, where they can participate in enrichment activities and have one-on-on literacy mentoring time. 

March is Reading Month -- Our Crime and Safety Expert Darnell Blackburn had a chance to read to two different classes this month. The first was over at Dickinson East Elementary School in Hamtramck, and the second was over at Bibleway Church on Detroit's west side.

A big effort is happening on Thursday for National Donate Life Month.  Every year, volunteers come together to make comfort blankets, which will go to new organ donor families. It’s a great way to show love and solidarity for families going through a difficult time. And on March 26, you have a chance to lend a helping hand.  This is free and open to anyone, and all you have to do is bring yourself. All the materials are provided.  Patty Jo Herndon, the CEO of the Michigan Donor Family Council, joined Local 4 Live to talk about the event.

Detroit native Risonna Perkins wrote “Meet the Buzzbees,” a children’s book inspired by the loss of her mother, grandmother, and aunt to cancer, with each bee character representing a loved one. Blending music, bee facts, and Detroit pride, the book features a fictional bee family living on Belle Isle, local cancer resources, and a guide to attractions and food in Detroit, while also supporting cancer research and bee preservation through charitable donations.

Our Crime and Safety Expert Darnell Blackburn recently read to students at Ottawa Elementary in Clinton Township!

Our "Pass It On for Prom" go 4 it event just wrapped up at the Boys and Girls Club on Tireman Avenue. Folks have been donating like-new or gently-used prom dresses. In fact, more than twelve hundred have been collected as part of our team-up with "Belle of the ball."

The "Go 4 It: Pass it on for Prom" event, held at the Boys & Girls Club in Metro Detroit, successfully collected hundreds of new or gently-used prom dresses to ensure students can attend prom. The dresses will be distributed at the "Belle of the Ball Annual Prom Dress Giveaway" on April 11, 2026.
