How this local bookstore is encouraging reading and learning

Get inspired to read for Black History Month

We can agree there is nothing like a good book. Whether the genre is romance, fantasy, science fiction, mystery, or thrillers, books can take us to different places.

Janiece Haynes is the owner of Detroit Book City bookstore. This year the bookstore will host its 7th annual African American family book expo. Haynes said the purpose of the expo is to “keep people excited” about reading and to expose the community to African American writers.

Haynes sad that visitors to the expo can expect to see 30 different authors of all genres, live music, and family friendly activities.

Detroit Book City bookstore has been around for about six years. and Haynes said the bookstore offers, “new, used, and rare books for all ages.”

The event is free, and people of all ages are welcomed.
