Time for a staycation or go on a vacation?

Friends of “Live In The D” talk about how they like to spend their time off

The kids are on summer break and parents might be ready for a getaway. So, is it time for a vacation? Or, how about a staycation?

Friends of “Live In The D” appeared on the show to talk about their vacation preferences during our “What’s The Buzz” segment. The conversation included “Live In The D” host Tati Amare, guest-host Greg Russell, Jason Hall from RiDetroit, and Vanessa Cohen, the co-founder of the Cohen brand and the creator of Motor City Date Night.

First up, Tati asked the group if they would pick a staycation or a vacation. Jason said he’s done a staycation, but that he’s not picking it over a vacation. Vanessa said both staycations and vacations serve purposes. “Sometimes you just want to explore the area that you’re in a little bit differently, and so you just need the time to do that. Other times you want to explore somewhere you’ve never been,” Vanessa explained.

Next, the group talked specifically about staycation plans. Tati asked if staycations should be about getting things done or sitting back and relaxing. She also posed the question: would you ever take a day off just to take care of chores or errands? Vanessa said that staying home to do chores is not a “staycation.” Instead, she said that is “taking a day off.” Vanessa said that her version of a staycation is going up to the sand dunes. Greg said that he’s taken staycations to just spend time at home.

The conversation moved to the ideal length of a vacation. Vanessa said her vacation needs to be a week if she’s going out of the country. She said a staycation can be two to three nights. Meanwhile, Jason said if he’s leaving the country and going to a destination like Europe, he needs to take a two-week vacation. For a staycation, like a visit to Grand Rapids, Jason said it can be two days.
