Be on the lookout for your pet having these symptoms of diabetes

November is Pet Diabetes Month

November is Pet Diabetes Month, which is a time to raise awareness about the disease that can not only impact people, but also their furry friends.

Lidia Vesterfelt with Michigan Humane shared some of the symptoms that could signal a pet has diabetes.

“One of the signs of diabetes is increased urination and excessive drinking,” Vesterfelt said.

Other potential warning signs are weight loss, decreased appetite, cloudy eyes, and chronic or recurring infections, Vesterfelt explained.

She said it’s more common for pets to get diabetes when they’re older, but it can happen at any age.

While appearing on “Live In The D”, Vesterfelt also introduced a puppy named Toucan Sam who is looking for his forever home.

Toucan Sam is just under five months old. She called him a “ball of energy” and said he loves toys and food. Watch the video above to meet Toucan Sam.
