Ice Cube talks taking the stage again in Detroit

He’ll be at The Fox Theatre this weekend

He is a hip-hop icon, entrepreneur, actor, writer, father, and so much more. The career of Ice Cub has spanned decades after first getting his start in Los Angeles in the late 1980s. Flash forward to 2024 and he’s still releasing music that’s topping the charts. Ice Cube talked with “Live In The D” about that legacy, his new music, and performing in Detroit.

When talking about the legacy of hip-hop Ice Cube said, “I remember when they called this music a fad, and it was really shunned by a lot of forms of entertainment.” Decades later the Grammy Award-winner says things are still rolling and hip-hop is here to stay.

The rapper recently released the album “Man Down” and the single from the album “It’s My Ego”. The album debuted at number two on the iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap Chart, something Ice Cube said is amazing. “I did this record for my day-one fans. And for them to accept the record, you know they love it out there in Detroit, it’s a beautiful thing.”

As for his new song, Ice Cub said it’s all about being okay to tell people when you’re good at something. “We don’t always have to be on this humble pie stuff. Everybody has an ego and everybody can celebrate this song with it.”

He also spoke about playing in Detroit and being at The Fox Theatre. He said Detroit is a place where people love his music and he always loves to come here.
