What’s the main character trend all about?

Friends of ‘Live In The D’ talk about the good and bad sides of the trend

Do you have “main character” energy? It’s become a popular trend on social media, but it goes beyond the internet.

“It’s basically when you’re unapologetically you. You are so focused on yourself and your own life that you can’t even bother with all of the toxic, negative hating energy, and you start to romantic things in life,” YouTuber Lena Lifts said while describing the trend in an online video that has more than 200-thousand views.

She also said it’s when you treat yourself well and understand your worth.

The main character trend was the topic of discussion for What’s The Buzz on “Live In The D”. The conversation included host Tati Amare, guest host Shea Hicks-Whitfield, along with Vanessa Cohen, the co-founder of the Cohen brand and the creator of Motor City Date night, and Gwen Jimmere who is the CEO of Naturalicious.

First, Tati asked the group if they try to give off main character energy. Gwen and Vanessa both said they think you either have main character energy or you don’t. Gwen said that it has to come naturally.

Next, they talked about the benefits of main character energy. The conversation also included whether giving off main character energy can be taken in a negative way.

Finally, the group discussed being a “side character”, and certain times in life when it’s important to give side character energy, instead of main character energy.

“Every moment isn’t your moment, and so sometimes you need to be the supportive friend, or the backstory to somebody’s foreground,” Vanessa said.
