Grosse Pointe Park is about to welcome a heartwarming addition to its community—a unique café dedicated to making a difference. Michael B’s Café, set to open soon on Mack Avenue, will offer more than just coffee; it will provide vital job training and opportunities for young adults with special needs.
During an appearance on “Live In The D,” Alicia Carlisle, who spearheads the initiative, emphasized the collaborative spirit behind the project. “Just because I’m doing the interview doesn’t mean there’s not a whole team behind me,” she said. “I have a wonderful board, great friends, and a community that has just wrapped their arms around us.”
The café is a non-profit venture supported by local partners like Wayne County Community College District. Denis Karic, provost at the Mary Ellen Stempfle University Center, highlighted the educational aspect of the collaboration. “When Alicia approached us about this partnership, we saw it as an opportunity to fulfill our mission in a meaningful way,” Karic noted.
To support the café’s mission, a fundraising event featuring Nashville artist Mack Watts is scheduled for June 7. Watts, a Bloomfield Hills native, made a surprise appearance on LITD via Zoom.
