Halloween Etiquette: What you should know before the spooky holiday

Advice for a successful trick-or-treat experience

Halloween is this Friday, which means many are gearing up to take those trick-or-treaters out and about - or stay home and hand out some candy. Before the big holiday, there’s some important etiquette that you need to be aware of, and that was the topic for “What’s the Buzz,” Monday on Live in the D.

Friend of the show, Jason Hall with RiDetroit - and social media influencer Autumn Lucy - stopped by to chat about some Halloween etiquette. The first question was, what time should trick-or-treating start? “I think most cities are starting around 6pm but I’m a toddler mom and I think you gotta be ready for the toddlers to come out at 5,” said Lucy. Hall said he shoots straight home from work, “I’m ready when I hit the door.”

The group also discussed the appropriate amount of candy to pass out, what to do if the lights are off at a home, and should you trick-or-treat in neighborhoods where you don’t live.
