It’s the season of giving, and one way to give back is by donating to Gleaners Community Food Bank which helps to put food on the table of families in need.
November 18th is a Match 4 Meals donation day for Gleaners, which means that every dollar that gets donated to the food bank is being doubled, thanks to a generous match by Ford Philanthropy.
Normally, for every dollar donated, Gleaners can provide three meals to families in need. However, on November 18th, Ford Philanthropy is doubling every dollar donated so that Gleaners will be able to provide six meals for each dollar that’s donated.
The community support is pouring in because the Detroit Lions are also matching the first $25,000 in donations.
“Match 4 Meals today is incredibly important so that we can take care of families by setting the table for a happy, not hungry,” said Kristin Sokul, the senior director of advancement communications at Gleaners.
Gleaners serves multiple counties in southeastern Michigan by providing food to partners. The Gleaners Distribution Center in Taylor is a large, high-capacity warehouse where food is received, sorted, stored and distributed to partner agencies. It comes together with the help of volunteers.
