The countdown to “The Game,” also known as the Michigan versus Ohio State game, just got a lot more meaningful.
The two universities are currently competing in the 43rd annual Blood Battle in partnership with the American Red Cross. It’s a competition where every pint donated helps the Wolverines inch closer to victory long before the teams hit the field.
With the final day to donate being tomorrow (Wednesday November 26), Dr. Robert Ernst, Chief Health Officer for the University of Michigan joined us on “Live in the D” this morning.
Ernst spoke about the “Be a Hero in the Big House” event that took place this past weekend. The event had a terrific turnout, giving attendees the opportunity to experience fun giveaways, tours of the building, and the chance to donate blood.
There is still time to donate. Ernst advises going to the American Red Cross website where you can find local blood drives at a convenient place and time for you.
While blood donations are needed throughout the year, it’s consistently found that around the holidays, donations tend to trail off. The “Blood Battle” raises awareness for blood donations during the season, while getting the communities in the spirit for the big game.
