DETROIT – A father is still searching for answers after his daughter was murdered in 2023.
Claude Joseph said he has little trust in the police and the prosecutor’s office after no arrests have been made in the case. He said there are witnesses and video of his daughter being killed outside a Detroit home.
Jackquline Joseph was 22 years old when she was shot to death on Dec. 28, 2023. Her father said it was during a family feud and that authorities have the facts and he wants to know why no one has been charged.
“My baby was murdered. An innocent child, murdered,” said Claude Joseph.
He said the last thing he heard from Detroit police was that they were still waiting on word from the prosecutor’s office. Joseph said a family fight broke out at a home near the intersection of Indiana and Tireman avenues that ended with his daughter being shot.
Joseph said he received a call from his cousin, who told him a fight had broken out among family members. By the time he put his shoes on and got out the door, he got a call from his son. Jackquline Joseph had been shot on the sidewalk outside the home.
“My baby didn’t have anything but a cell phone,” Claude Joseph said. “No weapon. Had her phone. That’s it.”
He has been taking notes and doing his own interviews with neighbors and witnesses, but many don’t want to get involved, so he had to rely on police.
“I’ve filed complaints with Internal Affairs, the Detroit Board of Commissioners,” Joseph said, but there still have been no charges filed.
The Detroit Police Department released a statement regarding the shooting.
“While delay is unfortunate in any investigation, the Department must ensure that a thorough investigation is conducted so that all available evidence may be turned over to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. Homicide investigations are very complex and require extensive coordination between investigators and prosecuting attorneys. This process helps ensure that an appropriate charging decision is made that will ultimately lead to a conviction. Our sympathy and condolences continue to go out to the victim’s family. Like them, we ultimately want justice in this case and look forward to continued communication and work with the family on this investigation.”

“This is the worst experience I’ve ever experienced from law officials, law enforcement in our entire lives,” Joseph said. “We’re at wit’s end."
