On Detroit’s west side, Bethany Gruebbs, a mother of three, said she has been trapped by ice due to a water main break at Vaughan and Constance streets that occurred days ago.
Gruebbs said she has a lake that formed outside her home.
She said she wasn’t surprised to see Local 4 at her door and that she should be seeing Detroit Water and Sewerage Department crews.
When temperatures drop, water mains break. Although the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department is aware of the situation and has a repair plan, they have yet to commence repairs, allowing ice to form and complicate daily life.
Ice has locked in neighborhood vehicles, including Gruebbs' RAM truck.
“Something has to be done,” Gruebbs said. “Something has to be done.”
When reached for comment, DWSD said it typically takes a day or two after a problem is identified for a game plan to be established.
