A winter storm is expected to bring 4-7 inches of snow to Metro Detroit Wednesday and Thursday.
Most of the area is under a winter storm watch, but that’s likely to be upgraded to a winter weather advisory or winter storm warning.
Snow hitting midweek
We’re expecting 4-7 inches of snow in the majority of Metro Detroit counties in total, but amounts could be swayed by trends in the forecast track of this storm system.
The thumb region may see more snow than the Metro Detroit area. Areas further south, such as Monroe County, may see a little less snow accumulation.
Winter storm watch
A winter storm watch is when there are snow accumulations of at least five inches in six hours or less, six inches in nine hours, or at least seven inches in a winter event that lasts no more than 48 hours.
More snow this weekend
Not as much as it’s expected from the previous winter storm, but expect a few inches of snow.
Snow is expected to hit Metro Detroit Friday evening into Saturday for a good chunk of the day. It’s too early to call for exact snow totals; we’ll have more information as the week progresses.
Single-digit lows next week
Feb. 17 through Feb. 21 will have single-digit overnight temperatures following the snow storms.
Current weather models so far show overnight from Feb. 16 to Feb. 17 will have a low of just 5 degrees.
