Grosse Pointe Farms authorities reminding residents to check utility workers' ID before entering home

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Alleged robbers posing as utility workers stole from an elderly Grosse Pointe Farms resident with dementia, prompting authorities to remind residents to check utility workers’ identification before entering their homes.

Grosse Pointe Farms Department of Public Safety said three men went into an elderly resident’s home on March 8, 2025, and stole multiple items inside. Authorities said she has dementia.

“Please be assured that our detectives are actively reviewing the video surveillance footage recovered,” said Grosse Pointe Farms Department of Public Safety in a statement Saturday.

Officials said one suspect was wearing a highlighter yellow hoodie and distracted the victim while the two other suspects went through the victim’s bedroom.

The incident was reported on March 14 after family members noticed items missing during a visit.
