DETROIT – A former employee of Eminem has been charged for allegedly selling the rapper’s unreleased music.
46-year-old Joseph Strange from Holly faces federal charges with criminal infringement of a copyright and interstate transportation of stolen goods in connection to selling unreleased music by Marshall Mathers, who’s more famously known as Eminem.

On Jan. 16, 2025, employees of Eminem’s music studio in Ferndale contacted the FBI, saying they recently discovered unreleased music created by the legendary Detroit native rapper that was available on the internet. Officials said the music was still in the process of being developed by Eminem.
The employees got an image of a list of music that Eminem created but not released and was for sale through various websites. The employees recognized an image taken directly from a hard drive in the Ferndale studio.
The FBI identified and found multiple people who purchased the unreleased music. Those people identified Strange as the person who was selling the music.
Strange was an employee of Eminem from 2007 until 2021.
If convicted of the criminal infringement of a copyright charge, he faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. If convicted on the interstate transportation of stolen goods charge, he can spend up to ten years in prison.
