Dorian Trevor Sykes, 41, of Detroit, was arrested and charged with bank robbery and related crimes in Sterling Heights and Lathrup Village.

According to court records, on March 6, 2025, at approximately 11:50 a.m., Sykes allegedly entered Credit Union One in Sterling Heights.

He approached the teller counter, retrieved a piece of paper from a folder, and handed it to the teller.

Police said after the teller was unable to read the note, Sykes said, “This is a robbery,” demanding “big bills.”

Officials said the teller handed him approximately $10,169, which he grabbed along with the note before fleeing the bank.

Police said on March 12, 2025, at approximately 4:40 p.m., Sykes allegedly entered Chase Bank in Lathrup Village.

He provided the teller with a withdrawal slip that said, “Give me all the money, I have a gun, I will kill everyone in here,” while pointing to his right side, implying he had a weapon.

Court documents said the teller handed him approximately $3,400, and he left the bank with the money.

Witness statements and surveillance camera footage suggest that the physical description of the robber on March 12 matched that of the robber from March 6.

Sykes has been on federal supervised release since February 2024 following a conviction related to a bank robbery in 2020.

He appeared in federal court on March 18, 2025. If convicted, Sykes faces a statutory maximum penalty of 20 years in prison for bank robbery.
