ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – Police said they found several whippet canisters, open intoxicants, and marijuana inside a vehicle responsible for a crash that had shut down a stretch of I-94.
The freeway reopened around 7 p.m. but was shut down for hours due to an investigation.
The crash occurred just before noon, Thursday, April 3, on the eastbound lanes of I-94, near 10 Mile Road in St. Clair Shores.
According to authorities, a 21-year-old entered the freeway at an excessive speed before she tried to squeeze between vehicles, hitting a semi truck and another car.
The 21-year-old woman and her passenger were taken to a hospital for their injuries. No one else was injured in the crash, but the semi truck leaked a large amount of oil across the freeway.
The eastbound lanes of I-94 had been closed since the crash and were expected to be closed for most of the day as the oil was being cleaned up.
Police said they found several whippet canisters, open intoxicants, and suspected marijuana in the woman’s car. They are working to get a search warrant for a blood draw of the driver at the hospital.
