DETROIT – Police in Detroit are investigating a shooting that resulted in a bullet hitting a high school in a residential neighborhood on the city’s west side.
It happened just before 8 a.m. on Pinehurst Street, near Fenkell Avenue. Police said about 40 Loyola High School students were inside a chapel on the north side of the building when a bullet entered a window.
“This is disturbing for me because we pay for Catholic school to be safe. It is disturbing,” said Sharhonda, a parent of two students enrolled at Loyola. “When you hear things like this, you’re like, what do I do next? Now I have to take extra precautions to keep my kids safe.”
No injuries were reported and police believe there are no threats to the school.
Police are searching the area, knocking on doors and are working to acquire surveillance footage for more information.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Detroit Police Department at 313-596-1240 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

Dear Loyola Community,
This is a follow-up to our earlier message regarding the incident in the chapel this morning before our regularly scheduled prayer. We are relieved to report that no one was hurt and that everyone is safe.
The Detroit Police are currently investigating the situation, and we will share the findings of the investigation as soon as they become available.
In the meantime, please know that we are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of our community. Starting tomorrow morning, classes will resume as scheduled, with extra security measures in place.
The Detroit precinct will station a Neighborhood Police Officers (NPO) team at the school, and a counseling team will be available for any students who may need assistance.
I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the faculty and staff for their diligent care and support during this incident.
Please join me in prayer for our continued safety: Lord, we ask for Your protection over our school community. Grant us peace in this moment of uncertainty, and guide us as we move forward with strength and resilience. We are grateful for the care of our educators and the support of our families, and we trust in Your provision of safety and hope. Amen."
