35-year-old man has history of mental illness, police say

LIVONIA, Mich. – A man barricaded himself in a Livonia home on Wednesday and allegedly fired shots.

Police were called to the home on Ann Arbor Trail near Wayne Road on Oct. 29 for a welfare check. When they arrived, officers heard one or possibly two shots from the house.

Out of caution, police set up a perimeter around the home.

According to police at the scene, the man has a history of mental illness, and officers were called to the Livonia home before.

Police said the 35-year-old man lives with his grandparents, but they are not home.

Police also said the man has not been responsive to their demands.
