LENAWEE COUNTY, Mich. – A Lenawee County man said it was “nerve-wracking holding on to a ticket worth so much money” after he discovered that he won a $25,000 a year for life prize from the Michigan Lottery.
Douglas Higgins, 67, of Onsted, matched the five white balls (01-10-30-32-33) that were drawn on Oct. 27. Onsted is roughly 50 miles southwest of Ann Arbor.

“I regularly play Lucky For Life and after the drawings I write down the winning numbers and then check my tickets,” Higgins told Michigan Lottery officials. “I was circling the matching numbers on my ticket and when I was done, I thought: ‘Wait a second, I got five numbers?’ I rechecked the numbers and was stunned to find out I’d won $25,000 a year for life! It was a great feeling but also nerve-racking holding onto a ticket worth so much money!”
Higgins purchased his winning Lucky for Life ticket at the Meijer store at 3600 West Carleton Road in Hillsdale.
He decided to accept his prize as a one-time lump sum payment of $390,000.
The lucky winner plans to use the money to pay off his house, help his family and then save the rest, according to the Michigan Lottery.
