FLINT, Mich. – Flint native and three-time undisputed boxing world champion, Claressa Shields, returned home for her fifth annual Thanksgiving turkey giveaway.
Cars lined up around Berston Fieldhouse as Shields and volunteers handed out over 300 turkeys to community members.
Shields said the event, held on Monday (Nov. 24), was her way of giving back to the community that supported her growing up.
“To me, it’s important because I was once in their shoes, it was the opposite way around, and people who had it, and who wanted to give back, they gave to me and my family,” said Shields. “Even though we went without, we still had a great Thanksgiving, so I’m still appreciative of that, and I just want to do the same thing for them.”
Shields’ next boxing match is scheduled for February 2026 at Little Caesars Arena.
