Michigan working to boost enrollment for state’s free pre-K program

State working to increase enrollment 75% by 2027

There’s a push to increase the number of children enrolled in free pre-K in Michigan.

The state said 51,000 4-year-olds have enrolled in Michigan’s Great Start for Readiness program for this school year. That’s a 21% increase or 9,000 more children from last year.

Michigan has a goal of reaching 75% enrollment by 2027.

To talk more about this and how parents can take advantage, Dr. Beverly Walker-Griffea, the director of MiLEAP, and Sophia Lafayette-Lause, the director of MiLEAP’s division of early learning and family supports, joined Local 4 Live.
