Authorities said he started a fire at his then-girlfriend’s Warren home in September 2024, destroying it and killing two cats that were inside.

The woman was not home during the fire, but Humphrey reportedly knew the cats were inside when he set the blaze.

Humphrey was initially charged with two counts of second-degree arson and one count of third-degree killing of animals. However, after a preliminary exam, the judge amended the charges to two counts of first-degree killing of animals.

He was found guilty on all four counts.

On Thursday, Dec. 4, Humphrey was sentenced to 6-20 years in jail. He was ordered to have no contact with the woman or her family and pay her $15,000 restitution.
