ROMULUS, Mich. – The ground delay has been lifted for Delta Air Lines flights at Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) after hours of delays.
Computer issues forced Delta flights into a ground stop early Friday morning. Local 4 received calls from passengers who were having trouble checking into their flights as early as 5 a.m.
The ground stop was in effect until around 8:45 a.m. Friday, when the Federal Aviation Administration changed the verbiage to “ground delay.” Flights were delayed an average of 160 minutes, according to the FAA.
The ground delay was in effect until around 11:30 a.m. Friday.
Delta flights both into and out of DTW were affected, including Delta subsidiaries.
Here is a statement from Detroit Metro Airport:
Delta Air Lines has resolved a connectivity issue that impacted operations at the McNamara Terminal Friday morning. Operations are beginning to return to normal.
Delta has issued a waiver for customers traveling to, from, or through DTW on Dec. 5 and 6.
This situation was specific to Delta and did not impact other airlines at DTW.
The Wayne County Airport Authority team is in the McNamara Terminal distributing concession vouchers to affected passengers. We remain committed to supporting our customers during this time.
Delta recommends passengers check their flight status using the Fly Delta app or Delta.com before heading to the airport.
