Rebecca Park case: Communities rally to support murdered Michigan mother’s family

Communities across Northern Michigan are coming together to support the loved ones of Rebecca Park, the 22-year-old pregnant mother found dead in Manistee National Forest last month.

Earlier this week, Park’s biological mother and stepfather, Cortney and Bradly Bartholomew, were charged with her murder. Both are facing a long list of charges, including first-degree murder and torture, and are accused of stabbing Park to death and removing her unborn baby.

The couple appeared in court virtually and were denied bond.

‘Good for MSU, good for us’: Couple donates record $401M to Michigan State University

Michigan State University announced a huge donation that the university says will help reshape Spartan athletics.

“Today is truly a historic moment for Michigan State Athletics and our entire campus community,” J. Batt, Michigan State’s athletic director, said. “You’d be hard-pressed to find a more impactful singular moment in the history of MSU athletics.”

Batt stood at center court at the Breslin Center, flanked by MSU President Kevin Guskiewicz, to announce that the massive $401 million donation comes from Greg Williams, the owner of the Grand Rapids-based Acrisure, an insurance company, and his wife, Dawn.

Mass heating outage at Oakland University expected to be fixed by Dec. 11

Oakland University’s high-temperature hot water pipe repair project is on schedule for completion by Thursday, Dec. 11. However, a widespread heating outage affecting 21 campus buildings continues to disrupt end-of-semester activities and finals week.

The outage began during scheduled repairs over Thanksgiving break. The leak has left much of the campus without heat as students prepare for final exams.

Macomb County man charged after TikTok videos allegedly showed ‘desire to carry out a mass shooting’

A Macomb County man is being held on a $5 million bond after he was charged in connection with an alleged plan to attack a school, officials said.

Joel Edwards, 20, of St. Clair Shores, was charged with the following, according to a release from the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office:

  • Intentional threat to commit an act of violence against school, school employees or students with specific intent to carry it out or an overt act toward it (10-year felony)
  • Using a computer to commit a crime (10-year felony)
  • Felony firearm (2-year felony consecutive to main charge)

The charges follow an investigation and welfare check carried out by St. Clair Shores police.

Weather: Cold temperatures continue with another chance of accumulating snow in Metro Detroit this weekend

The cloud cover will stick around as we work through the day on a Saturday.

We may have a few snowflakes from time to time, especially from the morning into the early mid-afternoon hours, as we watch a cold front roll through the region.

High temperatures are heading into the lower 30s by Saturday afternoon.
