Detroit man sentenced for slashing throat of 7-year-old girl; additional sentence to run concurrently

Man reportedly lifted the girl’s chin and slashed her throat with a pocket knife

DETROIT – Gary Lansky, 74, was sentenced for the October 2024 non-fatal assault of a 7-year-old girl in Detroit.

Lansky, from Detroit, was sentenced on Thursday (Dec. 10), where he pleaded guilty but mentally ill to assault with intent to murder.

Lansky received a sentence of seven to 15 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections for slashing the throat of the child.

The attack occurred on Oct. 8, 2024, at the Lloyd H. Ryan Playground in Detroit, near Dearborn.

Lansky reportedly lifted the girl’s chin and slashed her throat with a pocket knife before attempting to stab her in the stomach.

When she fought him off, Lansky allegedly turned his attention to her grandmother.

The grandmother escaped injury when bystanders intervened.

He was also sentenced for a separate felonious assault case involving a relative, receiving one to four years in the Michigan Department of Corrections.

Both sentences will run concurrently.
