Detroit Tigers announce 3 changes to 2026 coaching staff

Tigers add former Orioles coaches, promote Billy Boyer

DETROIT – The Tigers announced Sunday, Nov 6 that they have added to their major league coaching staff.

They have named Cody Asche as their major league assistant hitting coach, Billy Boyer as their major league quality coach, and Anthony Sanders as their major league first base coach.

Cody Asche served as a minor league hitting coordinator for the Baltimore Orioles in 2022, offensive strategy coach from 2023-2024, and hitting coach in 2025.

He started his coaching career in 2021 as the hitting coach for the Phillies Single-A affiliate in Clearwater, Florida.

Billy Boyer served as the Tigers’ minor league field coordinator and infield coordinator in 2025. Prior to that, he served as the assistant coach with the University of Washington in 2023, and infield coordinator with the Tigers in 2022.

Anthony Sanders served as first base coach for the Baltimore Orioles from 2020-2025, and prior to that worked in the minor leagues for the Colorado Rockies for 13 years, holding various roles.
