DETROIT – A former Detroit Piston had a hilarious response after Cade Cunningham pulverized him at the rim on Sunday night.

Andre Drummond spent the first eight years of his career with the Pistons from 2012-2020. He averaged 14.4 points, 13.9 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, and 1.4 steals across 591 games.

Drummond’s time in Detroit came to an end on Feb. 6, 2020, when the Pistons traded him to the Cleveland Cavaliers for John Henson, Brandon Knight, and a second-round pick.

Since then, he’s spent time with the Lakers, 76ers, Nets, and Bulls. He’s currently back with the Philadelphia 76ers and getting a lot of run while superstar center Joel Embiid is out due to injury.

Drummond scored 17 points and added 12 rebounds in Sunday’s loss to the Pistons, but there’s only one moment everyone will remember.

Detroit led 106-104 with just under two minutes to play when Cunningham brought the ball up the court and drove hard to the rim. Drummond, who was guarding Jalen Duren along the baseline, slid over far too late, and Cunningham threw down a vicious right-handed dunk, plus the foul.

The Pistons posted a still photo of the dunk after the game, and Drummond responded on X.

“Cade if you see this (middle finger and laughing emojis) I’m blocking that next time. See you in a few days,” Drummond wrote.

Drummond is poking fun at himself -- and why not? If you spend 14 seasons in the NBA and don’t get dunked on once in awhile, you’re probably not trying hard enough to protect the rim.

The Pistons improved to 8-2 on the season -- the best record in the Eastern Conference. They’ve got a trio of home games this week: Washington on Monday, Chicago on Wednesday, and the aforementioned rematch with Philadelphia on Friday.
