DETROIT – Detroit Lions star tight end Sam LaPorta is unlikely to return this season after having a back procedure, according to Dan Campbell.

Campbell broke the news during his briefing on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025.

LaPorta was placed on injured reserve after catching 40 passes for 489 yards and three touchdowns in the team’s first nine games.

In three seasons with the Lions, he has 2,104 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns on 186 catches. He’s a safety net for quarterback Jared Goff on key downs and also a strong blocker alongside the offensive line.
