DETROIT – Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell explained why his team had to waste a timeout after spiking the ball in the final moments of regulation against the Giants.

With the final minute winding down before overtime, the Lions spiked the ball to stop the clock as they approached field goal range down by three points.

After the spike, the offense took too long to get aligned for the following snap. As the play clock wound down, Detroit was forced to use the timeout it had just tried to save.

Reporters asked Dan Campbell what happened in the post-game press conference.

“The headset -- I don’t know what happened with that,” Campbell said. “To be honest with you, I just know I couldn’t get to (quarterback Jared Goff), so I don’t know if something happened -- I don’t know.”

During the game, Goff could be seen walking up to the official and pointing to his communicator as if to say he couldn’t hear.

The Lions went on to win in overtime, but it certainly was a bad time for a technical issue.
