DETROIT – The Detroit Lions added depth to their backfield, signing running back Raheem Blackshear after hosting workouts for four free-agent running backs during the sixth day of training camp.
According to ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Lions worked out Blackshear, Kylin James, former Michigan Wolverines star running back Hassan Haskins and Super Bowl champion Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

Following the workouts, Detroit signed Blackshear and waived injured wide receiver Lawrence Keys, the team announced.
Blackshear reunites with Lions running back Isiah Pacheco.
The two were teammates at Rutgers in 2018 and 2019 under coach Chris Ash.

The Lions’ search for running back depth comes after Sione Vaki suffered a broken nose and an eye injury during Monday’s practice.
Head coach Dan Campbell said Tuesday that Vaki is expected to miss time while recovering but that his vision is expected to be OK.
Detroit is also without star running back Jahmyr Gibbs on the practice field as he continues a hold-in during ongoing contract extension negotiations.
Blackshear spent the past three seasons with the Carolina Panthers, appearing in 41 games from 2022 through 2024.
He rushed for 203 yards and three touchdowns while also contributing on special teams as a kick returner.
The Lions continue training camp this week as they prepare for the 2026 NFL season.
