Shawnte Passmore joined WDIV in August 2024 after working at KOVR in Sacramento, California, WFSB in Hartford, Connecticut and KMTV in Omaha, Nebraska.
The California native is passionate about telling people's stories, especially in underserved communities. For her, every story is an opportunity to dig deeper beneath headlines and statistics – a chance to shine a light on the issues affecting people from every walk of life.
For nearly a decade, she has covered wildfires, flooding, snow squalls and severe weather. Some of her most notable stories include covering the missing mother of five, Jennifer Farber Dulos; the trial of Anthony Garcia; and California’s first murder conviction and sentencing of a fentanyl dealer. Shawnte also has covered the issue of homelessness extensively.
She received her B.A. in journalism from California State University, Long Beach.
When she’s not working, you can find her enjoying the great outdoors and exploring new hangout spots. She also enjoys volunteering in her community.
Shawnte is thrilled to call Metro Detroit home!
